MFSM - Ireland - July 2017 Print E-mail

Kirkcaldy

In July 2017, Scotland's Women National Team played a warm-up friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Kirkcaldy ahead of their Euro 2017 campaign in the Netherlands.  TACC invited some disadvantaged young people along to the game as part of the "My First Scotland Match" (MFSM) programme, they were a group from Burntisland Primary School and also a group from Active & Aware Youth Club, Kirkcaldy.  Each child received a match ticket, a Scotland shirt, a Saltire flag and £10 to spend.

The feedback TACC received - "Just to say thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to come along the other night.  The children who were there have had a number of issues at home ranging from severe health issues, ADHD, family bereavement, drug and alcohol exposure and child protection issues.  Obviously for data protection reasons I cannot go into details of the children's explicit backgrounds suffice to say that their wee lives have not been easy.  They were totally blown away by the whole experience, they had never been to a football match before and for one, he was completely blown away by getting the money to spend - it was like all his Chrismas' had come at once - he'd never held that amount of money before.  The children were totally overwhelmed, one kept asking me if ''it was really real''. The parents were super excited too, for some it gave them a much needed bit of respite from their challenging children - one is a single dad with an ADHD son who finds life very difficult so for him even to get 'a night off' he was totally delighted!  The other parents spoke incredibly positively afterwards too saying that their children came back absolutely bouncing and desperate to go back!  I am sure the whole experience will have had a massive impact where these children will feel more motivated to connect to school, sport and football. To see the world differently. It was a night to remember for them, a one off, a highlight of their summer, their year! Thank you so so very much!"

More than £12K raised for TACC Print E-mail

Players

Thanks to 3 well supported events (24 Hour Football Edinburgh,  24 Hour Football Aberdeen, Dinner Dance in Glasgow), TACC supporters have raised the fantastic sum of £12,000+ for the charity over the summer period.  Those funds will be used to help disadvantaged children in Scotland and overseas.  Many thanks to all concerned, but especially to the players at the 24 Hour Football events who really suffered to get their sponsorship money.  Thanks also to all those who supported these events, especially the physios at the football.  And special thanks to James McFadden, Stephen Pearson and Peter Martin for supporting the Dinner Dance in Glasgow.

TABLES

This year's TACC Dinner Dance was held on Saturday 27th October 2018 at the Principal Hotel Edinburgh George Street (formerly The George Hotel).

The fantastic sum of £4000 was raised to help TACC to support disadvantaged children in Scotland and overseas.

In addition, TACC donated £2500 to each of 4 local charities as follows:

1. Tweed Togs is an initiative run entirely by local volunteers in Tweeddale. They supply good quality, donated children's clothing, carefully packed in gift bags, to struggling local families.

2. Canongate Youth provides support, recreation and training opportunities for 5-25 year olds in the Edinburgh/Lothian Area to help them overcome barriers and secure a great future.

3. The Yard offers disabled children and young people, and their siblings, the chance to experience creative, adventurous indoor and outdoor play in a well supported environment.

4. Whispers & Light makes a difference to the lives of children and teens affected by a terminal cancer diagnosis and their families by supporting them through practical and emotional support.

In September 2017, Scotland's National Team played a World Cup 2018 Qualifier against Malta at Hampden Park in Glasgow after a succesful away game in Lithuania.  TACC invited some disadvantaged young people along to the game as part of the "My First Scotland Match" (MFSM) programme, they were a group from Frame Football Scotland.  Each child received a match ticket, a Scotland shirt, a Saltire flag and £10 to spend.

The feedback TACC received - "What a night Frame Football Scotland had!  It has to be one of the best experiences to see your National Team at home in the impressive Hampden Stadium. Scotland won 2-0 and the rain stayed off! The Frame Footballers were delighted with their Scotland top and their Scotland flag and this whole night was only made possible by Tartan Army Children's Charity (TACC) whom we met up with before kick off.  It was great to see Mandy and Jim!  Once again, my biggest thanks go to them for making last night possible.  Nadine xx"
