2011 Kiev |
Christmas 2011TACC have once again make a donation to the School of the Blind in Kiev.
The school has continued to face great challenges - funding remains a big problem and only covers the bare minimum to allow the pupils to survive.
The school have used the donation to purchase new heaters. These heaters have served a vital role for the school. The heaters actually saved their fruit and vegetables and other food they store - the weather is ridiculously cold, around -30C and all their supplies would have been ruined without them.
Start of School 2011The school year has just started again in Kiev and the children have sent a couple of photos from the first day of term. Once again the pupils pass on thier good wishes to the Tartan Army.
ABOUT THE SCHOOLIn 2006 when TACC (then known as TartanKiev) was searching for a good cause for our first major donation we came across the school for blind and partially-sighted children in Kiev.
We were aware of how children with disabilities can at times be excluded from society and removed from families that can’t afford to look after them. However what really touched us about the school was that they focus on giving the children skills to take with them into adulthood, for when they leave the school and have to make a living for themselves.
They focus on handicraft, painting and musical skills, and in fact the children have won several musical awards. We even sold some of their paintings last year in Edinburgh. |
