MFSM - August 2012 - The Spartans Print E-mail
Down to the nitty gritty now, this is what it's all about and is what we do with all your help and support. Children from The Spartans Community Football Academy recently attended the Scotland v Australia game at Easter road in Edinburgh on the 15th of August as part of TACC's My First Scotland Match.

The Spartans FooTEA Club lets local primary school children from the community come along to pla
y football, games and have a good meal. The Spartans are based in Edinburgh and you can learn more here http://www.spartanscfa.com/
MFSM-08-2012-spartans-642We're sure the kids enjoyed themselves but it's best if we let The Spartans Youth Activities Co-ordinator Amy Henderson describe it in her own words. Magic!

“We are the famous footea army and we are going to Easter Road” was the chant the young people sang from the start to the end of our journey to the Scotland match on the 15th August and will become one of the anchors to remind them of the game. Thanks to TACC who provided us with 3 adult and 12 children tickets for the Scotland vs Australia international game, we were able to give the opportunity for 12 young people to attend their first ever Scotland game match. The TACC gave every young person a replica Scotland shirt which made them feel proud to Scottish and a part of the nation.

There were many highlights of the game for the young people. Firstly being in a crowd so big and singing the national anthem; Secondly seeing Scotland score three goals which they celebrated in great fashion and will cherish the moments forever. Throughout the duration of the game all you could hear was the young people singing ‘we'll be coming’ and analysing the game, shouting what pass should be played (Craig Levein better watch his job). The most magic moment was the final whistle where all the young people celebrated like Scotland had just won the world cup and made all the people around them smile!

This experience gave the opportunity for the young people to get out of North Edinburgh, develop their social skills and strengthen relationships with academy staff. The opportunity to be proud to be Scottish and understand what teamwork can do for people which I hope they will take to their Footea club and become leaders and create a ripple effect for their peers."
