TACC donated £5000 to Firefly, a childrens cancer charity in Zagreb who support children in the city and across the country.
Firefly Association was founded in September of 2000 by medical professionals, parents of children suffering from cancer, expert associates and other interested parties. The idea of forming such an organization has come from the experiences of parents and medical staff of the Oncology Department of Children's Hospital Zagreb. It has also come from the recognition of the need to expand communication among parents as well as from the wish to improve the quality of life of sick children.
The aim of the association is to improve the life conditions and treatment of children suffering from cancer. Members of the Firefly Association are parents whose children are treated in some of the children's oncology departments in Croatia, parents whose children have successfully completed the treatment and those who have lost a child due to a malignant disease. Also, the association brings together a number of experts in the field who actively participate in its work.
£2500 will be used for complete refurbishment and equipping of emergency family accommodation at the children’s hospital that allow parent to stay close to their children during heartbreaking times.
£2500 will provide scholarships that will allow Firefly kids to go on a specialist eight-day camp that is a vital part of cancer rehabilitation. Camp does not offer only activities related to fun and sports but also gathers together children who share experience of dealing with cancer, experience that makes them true heroes of our time but also different from their peers.
